Gorgon Project receives Tristar Treatment
Tristar has been chosen to design, supply and install a plant to treat wastewater from the project’s construction camp on Barrow Island.
The bridging wastewater treatment plant, which will serve thousands of workers involved in the construction of a liquefied natural gas plant and domestic gas plant, has presented a number of unusual challenges because of its location in a Class A nature reserve.
Firstly, Tristar had to design a plant that would have a minimal footprint and would be able to withstand the cyclones which sometimes occur in this region.
Equipment then needed to be transported to the island and installed in accordance with the stringent quarantine requirements imposed on the island.
The result is a plant that only occupies 600m2 but has the capacity to handle the demand equivalent to that of a small town.
Wastewater will be treated by a membrane bio reactor treatment plant, which features a PLC system that provides full automation and allows control via touch screen HMI. Effluent from the plant will be treated to a level where it can be safely disposed of by aquifer recharge.
