Wastewater Treatment

The SAF System

The Submerged Aerated Filter is a biological treatment process based on submerged aerated biofilter using a fixed film, attached biological growth process. The high rate biological oxidation process is performed using an extremely efficient Submerged Aerated Filter with a very high specific surface area.

In a compact 6 stage process the SAF system is able to deliver a final effluent low in Total Suspended Solids, Nitrogen and Phosphate.

The SAF system has many advantages including:

  • Small Footprint
  • Low sludge production
  • No moving parts
  • High efficiency
  • Stable high quality effluent

The process through to final effluent discharge is as follows:

  1. Raw sewerage is entered at an average flow rate to a primary settling tank
  2. The settled sewage passes to the submerged aerated filter
  3. Biologically treated liquor discharges from the biozone to settlement
  4. Biologically treated liquor passes by gravity through the final settlement tank
  5. Effluent discharges from settlement via tank through chlorine contact chamber
  6. Final effluent is discharged to disposal field or filtered prior to discharge for reuse

The SAF System

Tristar will design and install packaged system SAF system to meet any size and effluent level requirement.
